About
White Water Gallery was founded in 1974 by a small group of local artists as a venue to promote and showcase contemporary Canadian art. Incorporated in 1977, it became the first publicly funded art gallery in North Bay, and is one of the oldest Artist-Run Centres in Canada. Over the years the Gallery has presented hundreds of exhibitions and cultural events of local, provincial, and national importance, and has been a launching point in the careers of some of the country’s most successful artists. White Water Gallery is committed to supporting artistic practices in a wide range of disciplines with an emphasis on artists that prioritize experimentation and innovation in their work. Through its programming, operations, and outreach activities the Gallery strives to create opportunities for Canadian artists, present innovative contemporary art and cultural events that would not otherwise be presented in the region, create opportunities for the public to interact with cultural projects that challenge and ignite thought, and act as a resource centre for emerging and professional contemporary artists.
